2012 Regional Nordic and Snowshoe Event
Special Olympics Regional Nordic and Snowshoe event was held this weekend Saturday January 28th, 2012. The competition was held at Bristol Mountain Ski Resort in Canandaigua, New York. The weather has not been cooperating so far this year with regards to our winter events for our winter athletes. With little snow and warmer temperatures, we were concerned with trail conditions. Fortunately for us Bristol Mountain can make their own snow so the games did not have any problems with icy tracks or lack of snow. There were participants representing a variety of clubs/teams from the Genesee Region. These teams included: Avon CSD, Counting Developmental Services, Finger Lakes Central, Genesee ARC, Great Tigers, Heritage Christian Services and Yates ARC. We had 51 athletes take part in the Regional Nordic and Snowshoe event. Every athlete that took part in the games did a fantastic job this Saturday and the hard work they put into practice really pays off on the course. Special Olympics would like to thank Larry Johnson, Al Royter and Linda Steinmetz for their tremendous effort and support this past Saturday. Special Olympics would also like to thank its volunteers. We know how busy and hectic life can be, so for you people to take time out of your day means the world to our staff. Without your support these events/competitions would not be possible. Thanks to the Bristol Mountain Ski Resort for letting Special Olympics use their Nordic Center facility and trails. The winter season of sports for Special Olympics is just kicking off, so if you have not been to a sport event yet go online to www.nyso.org and look for the event calendar. The 2012 Winter State Games will be held in Rochester this year from February 10th thru the 12th. So please come out and support our athletes!
