All events free and open to the public Special Olympics New York’s 2009 State Fall Games are coming soon to the New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls. Fall Games is one of three annual state games and more than 400 total competitions held each year throughout New York. All events are free and open to the public and “Fans in the Stands”are encouraged to attend all festivities and competitions to cheer on the athletes.

Honorary Co-Chairs of the State Fall Games are Bruce Bonafiglia, President of Bonadent Dental Laboratories and Andrea Bonafiglia, President of Bonadent Dental Laboratories in Florida. The Chair of the Games Organizing Committee is Anthony Petroccia, Director of Recreational Services at New York Chiropractic College. Bonident Dental Laboratories and Seneca Falls Savings Bank are the leading event sponsors.

Opening Ceremonies will begin at 8:00 PM on Friday evening, October 2 at the Athletic Center of NYCC. This event offers athletes, families, coaches and fans an evening of pageantry and celebration, culminating in the lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron with the Flame of Hope to mark the start of the competitions. The keynote speaker is Christine Moulton, Executive Director of the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls. In her address, Ms. Moulton will offer a tribute to Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of Special Olympics and one of the “Women of the Hall.”

Athletic competition is a day-long event on Saturday, October 3. More than 500 athletes and coaches from across the state will participate in five Olympic-style sports including:

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING: NYCC Campus
EQUESTRIAN: Lehman Farms, 161 S. Wilmarth Road, Pittsford
GOLF TEAM & SKILLS:, Seneca Falls Country Club, 2790 State Route 89, Seneca Falls

Special Olympics New York, which does not charge athletes to participate, provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for more than 47,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

In addition to the leading sponsors, State Fall Games are made possible through the generosity of statewide sponsors including Civil Service Employees Association, Knights of Columbus, New York State Rental Dealers Association, New York State United Teachers and TD Bank. Local sponsors include Pliant Corporation, Seneca Meadows, SMS Lodge of Seneca Falls, Seneca County Chamber of Commerce, and Aaron’s. In addition, several community groups involved in promoting and raising dollars are: Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, Fall Street Business Community, and Bass Pro Shops.
