WHY: Special Olympics New York’s 2010 / 2011 State Winter Games are among
three annual State Games and more than 4,000 competitive experiences held each year throughout New York. All events are free and open to the public.
Co-Honorary Chairs of the State Winter Games are Joanne Mahoney, Onondaga County Executive and James Gaspo, President, Citizens Bank New York. Co-Games Organizing Committee Chairs are William Fisher and Ann Rooney also from the Onondaga County Executive’s office. Citizens Bank and Wegmans Food Markets are Premiere event sponsors.
Over 400 Special Olympics athletes and coaches from across New York will compete in Alpine and Nordic Skiing, Speed and Figure Skating, Floor Hockey and Showshoeing. More than 450 volunteers from surrounding communities will be needed to support the event.
The 2010 State Winter Games will begin with Opening Ceremonies at 7:00 PM on Friday, February 5 and athletic competitions will be held on Saturday, February 6, beginning at 8:30 AM.
